Welsh actor, film director and film producer Sir Anthony Hopkins was born on this day in 1937. After graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 1957, Hopkins trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London where he was spotted by Laurence Olivier who invited him to join the Royal National Theatre in 1965.
Recognition in film came when he played Richard the Lionheart in 'The Lion in Winter' (1968). Other notable film credits include 'The Looking Glass War' (1970), 'When Eight Bells Toll' (1971), 'Young Winston' (1972), 'A Bridge Too Far' (1977), 'Magic' (1978), 'The Elephant Man' (1980), 'The Bounty' (1984), 'The Silence of the Lambs' (1991), 'Howards End' (1992), 'The Remains of the Day' (1993), 'Shadowlands' (1993), 'Legends of the Fall' (1994), 'Meet Joe Black' (1998), 'Hannibal' (2001), 'Red Dragon' (2002), 'The World's Fastest Indian' (2005), 'Thor' (2011), 'Hitchcock' (2012), 'The Two Popes' (2019), 'The Father' (2020), ‘One Life’ (2023) and ‘Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire’ (2023).
One of the worlds most respected and accomplished actors for more than 50 years, Anthony Hopkins has been the recipient of numerous accolades including two Academy Awards for Best Actor, four BAFTAs, two Emmys and a BAFTA Fellowship for lifetime achievement. Happy Birthday Sir Anthony.
