American actor, comedian and writer Bill Murray was born on this day in 1950. Murray rose to fame in the mid 1970s with his comedy performances on 'Saturday Night Live'. He went on to star in a string of hit comedy films including 'Meatballs' (1979), 'Caddyshack' (1980), 'Stripes' (1980, 'Tootsie' (1982), 'Ghostbusters' (1984), 'Ghostbusters II' (1989), 'Groundhog Day' (1993) and 'Kingpin' (1996).
In the new millennium he showed his versatility for also playing serious dramatic roles in Sophia Coppola's 'Lost in Translation' (2003) for which he won the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for Best Actor'. He has collaborated regularly with director Wes Anderson on a number of movies including 'Rushmore' (1998), 'The Royal Tenenbaums' (2001), 'The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou' (2004), 'The Darjeeling Limited' (2007), 'Fantastic Mr. Fox' (2009), 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' (2014), 'Isle of Dogs' (2018) and 'The French Dispatch' (2021). In recent years Bill Murray has also reprised one of his most popular roles as Peter Venkman in 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' (2021) and 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire' (2024). Happy Birthday Bill.
