American actor, filmmaker and musician Billy Bob Thornton was born on this day in 1955. His first break in the film industry came when he co-wrote and starred in 'One False Move' (1992). He received further acclaim when he wrote, directed and starred in 'Sling Blade' (1996) for which he won an Academy Award for Best Screenplay and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Major film roles followed throughout the 90s with 'U Turn' (1997), 'Primary Colors' (1998), 'Armageddon' (1998) and 'A Simple Plan' (1998). The new millennium saw Thornton continue to remain prolific, with starring roles in 'Monsters Ball' (2001), 'The Man Who Wasn't There' (2001), 'Bad Santa' (2003), 'Eagle Eye' (2008) and ‘The Gray Man’ (2022). More recently major roles in award winning TV dramas 'Fargo' and 'Goliath' have confirmed Thornton's status as one of the finest actors of his generation. Happy Birthday Billy Bob.
