American actor and film producer Brad Pitt was born on this day in 1963. After years of supporting roles in film and frequent guest appearances on television, Pitt gained wider recognition for his role as small-time criminal J.D. in Ridley Scott's 'Thelma and Louise' (1991).

Roles in 'Johnny Suede' and 'Cool World' (both 1991) failed to further his career but with Robert Redford's 'A River Runs Through It' (1992), Pitt's star began to rise. The actor compared working with Redford to  playing tennis with a superior player, saying "When you play with somebody better than you, your game gets better".

Starring roles in David Fincher's 'Se7en' (1995) and 'Fight Club' (1999) as well as an unforgettable cameo in Tony Scott's 'True Romance' (1993) cemented his star status further and with hit movies such as 'Kalifornia' (1993), 'Interview with the Vampire' (1994), 'Legends of the Fall' (1994), 'Twelve Monkeys' (1995), 'Sleepers' (1996), 'The Devil's Own' (1997), Seven Years in Tibet' (1997) and 'Meet Joe Black' (1998) the nineties saw him become one of the worlds biggest movie stars rivalled only by Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts.

The new millennium bought further success with a terrific appearance in Guy Ritchie's 'Snatch' (2000). Other notable credits this century include 'Spy Game' (2001), 'Oceans Eleven' (2001), 'Troy' (2004), 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2004), 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford' (2007), 'Burn After Reading' (2008), 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' (2008), 'Inglorious Basterds' (2009), 'Moneyball' (2011), 'World War Z' (2013), '12 Years a Slave' (2013), 'Fury' (2014), 'Allied' (2016), 'Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood' (2019), 'Ad Astra' (2019), 'Bullet Train (2022) and 'Babylon' (2022).

Pitt has also enjoyed great success serving as an executive producer or producer on several of his own starring films and others including 'The Departed' (2006), 'Kick-Ass 2' (2013), 'Selma' (2014), 'Moonlight' (2016), 'If Beale Street Could Talk' (2018), 'Vice' (2018) and 'Landscape with Invisible Hand' (2023).
