English film director and producer Danny Boyle was born on this day in 1956. Boyle began his career in theatre before moving on to television and then film with his much acclaimed feature debut 'Shallow Grave' (1994) which won the BAFTA Award for Best British Film.
His next film 'Trainspotting' (1996), an adaptation of the Irvine Welsh novel, established him as one of modern cinemas leading directors and helped revitalize the British film industry in the 1990s. The follow up 'A Life Less Ordinary' (1997) fared less well with critics and audiences but he was back on track with 'The Beach' (2000) based on the novel by Alex Garland.
Other notable film credits include '28 Days Later' (2002), 'Sunshine' (2007), 'Slumdog Millionaire' (2008), '127 Hours' (2010), 'Steve Jobs' (2015), 'T2 Trainspotting' (2017) and 'Yesterday' (2019). Another career highlight for Danny Boyle was being appointed artistic director for the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in London. More recently he directed the TV miniseries ‘Pistol’ (2022). Happy Birthday Danny.
