American actor and filmmaker Dustin Hoffman was born on this day in 1937. Hoffmans breakthrough role came with 'The Graduate' (1967) where his portrayal of Benjamin Braddock earned him his first Academy Award nomination. He received another Oscar nomination for his next film, playing "Ratso" Rizzo in 'Midnight Cowboy' (1969).

The 1970s brought him much critical acclaim and commercial success as he played a wide variety of roles in movies across different genres including 'Little Big Man' (1970), 'Straw Dogs' (1971), 'Papillon' (1973), 'Lenny' (1974), 'All the President's Men' (1976), 'Marathon Man' (1976) and 'Kramer vs Kramer' (1979).

Further acclaim and accolades followed into the 1980s with starring roles in award winning films including 'Tootsie' (1982) and 'Rain Man' (1988). The 90s and new millennium  saw Hoffman remain a much sought after actor with appearances in 'Dick Tracy' (1990), 'Hook' (1991), 'Sleepers' (1996), 'I Heart Huckabees' (2004), 'Last Chance Harvey' (2008), 'The Program' (2015) and most recently 'Megalopolis' (2024).
