American stage and film actor Frank Langella was born on this day in 1938. Langella made his film debut in 'Diary of a Mad Housewife' (1970) for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer. The same year he earned further acclaim for his role in Mel Brooks' 'The Twelve Chairs' (1970). Langella has always made the theatre the focal point of his career but reprised stage roles for the screen successfully, most notably 'Dracula' (1979) and an Academy Award nominated performance as Richard Nixon in Ron Howard's 'Frost/Nixon' (2008).
Other notable film credits include 'Masters of the Universe' (1987), '1492: Conquest of Paradise' (1992), 'Dave' (1993), 'The Ninth Gate' (1999), 'Good Night, and Good Luck' (2005), 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' (2010), 'Robot & Frank' (2012), 'Captain Fantastic' (2016) and 'The Trial of the Chicago 7' (2020).
