Australian filmmaker George Miller was born on this day in 1945. Miller made his feature-length directorial debut with dystopian action movie 'Mad Max' (1979). The film was a global hit, earning over US$100 million at the box office which off a budget of just A$400,000 made it, at the time, the most profitable movie ever made. Two sequels followed with 'Mad Max 2' (1981) and 'Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome' (1985) before the franchise received a highly successful reboot with 'Mad Max: Fury Road' (2015).

Other notable film credits include 'The Witches of Eastwick' (1987), 'Lorenzo's Oil' (1992), 'Babe: Pig in the City' (1998), 'Happy Feet' (2006), 'Happy Feet Two' (2011) and 'Three Thousand Years of Longing' (2022).

With a fifth Mad Max film: 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' currently in post-production and set for release later this year, George Miller continues as one of world cinemas most imaginatively bold and exciting talents. Happy Birthday George.
