English film director, producer and screenwriter Guy Ritchie was born on this day in 1968. Ritchie rose to prominence following the release of his directorial debut, the comedy heist film 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' (1998). Follow up movie 'Snatch' (2000) proved to be an even bigger hit with audiences and critics. Comedy romance 'Swept Away' (2002) and action thriller 'Revolver' (2005) were both critically and commercially unsuccessful but Ritchie was back on form and on more familiar London gangster territory with 'RocknRolla' (2008).

'Sherlock Holmes' (2009) and 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' (2011) starring Robert Downey Jr. as the master detective and Jude Law as Dr. John Watson were both huge commercial hits and a third film is currently in development. Other notable credits include 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015), 'Aladdin' (2019), 'The Gentlemen' (2019), 'Wrath of Man' (2021), 'Guy Ritchie's The Covenant' (2023), 'Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre' (2023) and 'The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare' (2024).
