Canadian film director James Cameron was born on this day in 1954. Cameron moved to the United States in 1971 where he studied Physics and English at the California State University. After dropping out he worked as a truck driver to support his ambitions of becoming a screenwriter. He eventually got a foothold in the film industry working as an art director on 'Battle Beyond the Stars' (1980) and a two week stint as director on 'Piranha Part Two: The Spawning' (1981) before he was fired.
His breakthrough came when he wrote and directed 'The Terminator' (1984). James Cameron has since gone on to direct some of the most successful films ever produced in Hollywood including 'Aliens' (1986), 'The Abyss' (1989), 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day' (1991), 'True Lies' (1994), 'Titanic' (1997), ‘Avatar’ (2009) and 'Avatar: The Way of Water' (2022).
