American actor and musician Joe Pesci was born on this day in 1943. Pesci began his showbusiness career in music, playing guitar with several bands before going on to form a popular comedy partnership with Frank Vincent. His first billed film appearance came in 'The Death Collector' (1976). Pesci's performance caught the attention of Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro and led to his breakthrough role as Joey LaMotta in 'Raging Bull' (1980) and a BAFTA Best Newcomer Award as well as a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination.

Thus began a series of successful collaborations with Scorsese and De Niro over the coming decades in the movies 'Goodfellas' (1990), 'Casino' (1995) and 'The Irishman' (2019).
