American actor John Cazale was born on this day in 1935. Cazale began his acting career in theatre in New York working alongside other emerging talents including Al Pacino and Meryl Streep. He soon became one of Hollywood's most sought after character actors.
In a tragically short career he appeared in just five films over seven years, all of which were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture: 'The Godfather' (1972), 'The Conversation' (1974), 'The Godfather Part II' (1974), 'Dog Day Afternoon' (1975) and 'The Deer Hunter' (1978).
John Cazale passed away in 1978 shortly after filming of 'The Deer Hunter' was completed aged just 42.
