Hollywood legend Judy Garland was born on this day in 1922. The actress, singer and dancer became an overnight star after portraying Dorothy in 'The Wizard of Oz' (1939). Her career spanned 45 years and included starring roles in critically acclaimed and popular movies such as 'Meet Me in St. Louis' (1944), 'Easter Parade' (1948), 'A Star Is Born' (1954) and 'Judgement at Nuremberg' (1961).

As well as a career in film, she also made record-breaking concert appearances, released eight studio albums and hosted her own Emmy-nominated television series. Judy Garland struggled in her personal life and battled, from a young age, with alcohol and substance abuse.

Her life was cut tragically short when she died of an accidental overdose in London in 1969 aged just 47.
