American actress Julia Roberts was born on this day in 1967. Roberts first big screen appearance was a small uncredited part in the low-budget sex comedy ‘Firehouse’ (1987). More substantial roles followed in ‘Mystic Pizza’ (1988) and ‘Steel Magnolias’ (1989) before starring opposite Richard Gere in her breakthrough film ‘Pretty Woman’ (1990).

From here her career went from strength to strength and she became the highest-paid actress in the world throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s as well as the recipient of numerous accolades including an Academy Award for Best Actress for ‘Erin Brockovich’ (2000).
