British actress Julie Christie was born on this day in 1940. After working on stage and TV, Christie made her film debut in 'Crooks Anonymous' (1962). Her breakthrough role came opposite Tom Courtney in 'Billy Liar' (1963). Her performance in 'Darling' (1965) made her an international star and won her the Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Actress. Further acclaim followed for her role as Lara Antipova in David Lean's 'Doctor Zhivago' (1965) with 'Life' magazine declaring that 1965 was "The Year of Julie Christie".
