American actor and film producer Leonardo DiCaprio was born on this day in 1974. DiCaprio’s acting career began with appearances on US TV shows before he made his film debut in the low-budget horror film ‘Critters 3’ (1991). His big break came when Robert De Niro chose him to play his stepson in ‘This Boy’s Life’ (1993). Shortly after he co-starred with Johnny Depp as his intellectually disabled brother in ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape’ (1993) for which he received Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor.

From here DiCaprio went on to work with some of modern cinemas best directors including Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Clint Eastwood, Ridley Scott, Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan and Danny Boyle, playing a wide variety of roles, in films such as ‘Titanic’ (1997), ‘The Beach’ (2000), ‘Gangs of New York’ (2002), ‘Catch Me If You Can’ (2002), ‘The Aviator’ (2004), ‘The Departed’ (2006), ‘Body of Lies’ (2008), ‘Shutter island’ (2010), ‘Inception’ (2010), ‘J. Edgar’ (2011), ‘Django Unchained’ (2012), ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ (2013), ‘Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood’ (2019), ‘Don’t Look Up’ (2021) and ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ (2023).

Winner of an Academy Award, a BAFTA, a Screen Actors Guild Award and three Golden Globes, Leonardo DiCaprio’s movies have grossed over $7 billion worldwide making him not only one of Hollywood's most successful actors but also one of its best. Happy Birthday Leo.
