American actor and producer Michael Douglas was born on this day in 1944. Douglas first came to prominence starring opposite Karl Malden in the ABC police drama 'The Streets of San Francisco' (1972-1977) for which he received three successive Emmy Award nominations.

He co-produced 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' (1975) and won his first Academy Award when the film won for Best Picture. He continued to work as a producer on films including 'The China Syndrome' (1979) and 'Romancing the Stone' (1984), both of which he also starred in and began to establish himself as one of Hollywood's most bankable leading actors.

Throughout the 80s and 90s and into the new millennium Douglas appeared in a string of hit movies including 'Fatal Attraction' (1987), 'Wall Street' (1987), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor, 'Black Rain' (1989), 'The War of the Roses' (1989), 'Basic Instinct' (1992), 'Falling Down' (1993), 'The Game' (1997), 'Wonder Boys' (2000), 'Traffic' (2000), 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' (2010) and 'Behind the Candelabra' (2013).

More recently he has portrayed Dr Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe appearing in 'Ant-Man' (2015), 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' (2018), 'Avengers Endgame' (2019) and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ (2023). Happy Birthday Michael.
