American actress Michelle Pfeiffer was born on this day in 1958. Pfeiffer's acting career began with appearances on US television before going on to make her big screen debut in 'The Hollywood Knights' (1980). Her first starring role was in the ill-fated 'Grease 2' (1982). The movie was a commercial and critical failure but gained the young actress wider attention with her performance being one of the few positives in an otherwise disappointing movie. Brian De Palma was suitably impressed and cast her as Elvira Hancock, the cocaine-addicted wife of Tony Montana in his gangster epic 'Scarface' (1983).

From here she grew in stature as one of the most successful Hollywood stars of the 80s and 90s with lead roles in a number of major motion picture productions including 'Into the Night' (1985), 'Ladyhawke' (1985), 'The Witches of Eastwick' (1987), 'Married to the Mob' (1988), 'Tequila Sunrise' (1988), 'Dangerous Liasons' (1988), 'The Fabulous Baker Boys' (1989), 'The Russia House' (1990), 'Frankie and Johnny' (1991), 'Batman Returns' (1992), 'The Age of Innocence' (1993), 'Wolf' (1994), 'Dangerous Minds' (1995), 'Up Close Personal' (1996), 'One Fine Day' (1996) and 'The Story of Us (1999).

The new millennium brought further acclaim with film credits that include 'What Lies Beneath' (2000), 'I Am Sam' (2001), 'White Oleander' (2002), 'Hairspray' (2007), 'Stardust' (2007), 'Personal Effects' (2009), 'People Like Us' (2012), 'Mother' (2017), 'Murder on the Orient Express' (2017), 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' (2018), 'Avengers: Endgame' (2019), 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil' (2019), 'French Exit' (2020) and 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' (2023).

Winner of a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and a three time Academy Award nominee, Michelle Pfeiffer has been one of Hollywood's most accomplished stars for more than four decades. Happy Birthday Michelle.
