American actor and filmmaker Nicolas Cage was born on this day in 1964. Cage made his big screen debut with a minor role in ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’ (1982). More substantial roles followed in films including ‘Rumble Fish’ (1982), 'Peggy Sue Got Married' (1986), 'Raising Arizona' (1987), 'Wild at Heart' (1990) and 'Red Rock West' (1993).
For his performance as a suicidal alcoholic in 'Leaving Las Vegas' (1995) he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. From here on he was now a Hollywood A-Lister, starring in the blockbuster action movies 'The Rock' (1996) and 'Con Air' (1997). Cage remained prolific into the new millennium starring in both big budget studio productions as well as smaller independent films such as 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin' (2001), 'Adaptation' (2002) for which he received his second Oscar nomination, 'Matchstick Men' (2003), 'National Treasure' (2004), 'Lord of War' (2005), 'World Trade Centre' (2006), 'Ghost Rider' (2007), 'Knowing' (2009), 'Kick Ass' (2010) and 'Joe' (2013).
One of Hollywood's most charismatic and versatile actors, Nicolas Cage has more recently gained a sizeable cult following for his performances in the movies 'Mom and Dad' (2017), 'Mandy' (2018), 'Pig' (2021), 'The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent' (2022), 'Reinfeld' (2023) and 'Dream Scenario' (2023).
