American actor Ron Perlman was born on this day in 1950. Perlman is a classically-trained actor who began his career in stage productions before making his film debut in Jean-Jacques Annaud's 'Quest for Fire' (1981). He was thinking of abandoning acting when he teamed up with Annaud again to play Salvatore in 'The Name of the Rose' (1986).
After various minor and supporting roles in films and television, he landed his breakthrough role playing Vincent in the television series 'Beauty and the Beast' (1987-1990) opposite Linda Hamilton. His performance earned him the 1989 Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series. A successful career in film and television followed during the 1990s and into the new millennium with some of Perlman's notable movies during this period including 'Romeo is Bleeding' (1993), 'The Adventures of Huck Finn' (1993), 'Police Academy: Mission to Moscow' (1994), 'The Last Supper' (1995), 'The Island of Dr. Moreau' (1996), 'Alien Resurrection' (1997), 'Enemy at the Gates' (2001), 'Blade II' (2002) and 'Star Trek: Nemesis' (2002). His first lead role was in 'The City of Lost Children' (2003) and he played his most famous film role when Guillermo Del Toro cast him in the lead role in 'Hellboy' (2004) and its sequel 'Hellboy II: The Golden Army' (2008).
Other significant film credits include 'Season of the Witch' (2011), 'Drive' (2011), 'Pacific Rim' (2013), 'Moonwalkers' (2015), 'Monster Hunter' (2020), 'Nightmare Alley' (2021), 'Don't Look Up' (2021), 'How I Got There' (2022) and 'The Retirement Plan' (2023). Happy Birthday Ron.
