Canadian actor and film director Ryan Gosling was born on this day in 1980. Gosling’s show business career began as a child star on the Disney Channel’s ‘The Mickey Mouse Club’ as well as appearances in other family entertainment TV shows. His first major movie role came in the independent film ‘The Believer’ (2001) followed by roles in several more independent productions. Gosling gained wider recognition as a leading man in the commercially successful romantic film ‘The Notebook’ (2004).

For his performance in ‘Half Nelson’ (2006) he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and he was soon established as one of the finest actors of his generation with starring roles in films as diverse as ‘Blue Valentine’ (2010), ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ (2011), ‘Drive’ (2011), ‘The Ides of March’ (2011), ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ (2012), ‘The Big Short’ (2015), ‘La La Land’ (2016), ‘The Nice Guys’ (2016), Blade Runner 2049’ (2017), ‘First Man’ (2018), 'The Gray Man' (2022), 'Barbie' (2023) and 'The Fall Guy' (2024).
