American actress and painter Sharon Stone was born on this day in 1958. Stone made her big screen debut in Woody Allen's 'Stardust Memories' (1980) where she was billed as simply 'Pretty Girl on Train'. Her first speaking part came a year later with a supporting role in Wes Craven's 'Deadly Blessing' (1981).
Throughout the 1980s she continued to work in film and TV in a supporting actor capacity before her breakthrough came with a part opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in Paul Verhoeven's 'Total Recall' (1990). International recognition followed for her portrayal of Catherine Tramell when she teamed up with Verhoeven again for 'Basic Instinct' (1992). Her portrayal of Ginger McKenna in Martin Scorsese's 'Casino' (1995) was a major career highlight and won Stone a Best Actress Golden Globe Award along with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
