'Blazing Saddles' opened in theaters in the U.S. on this day in 1974. Mel Brooks' spoof western starring Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder also had a World Premiere the same evening at the Pickwick Drive-In Theater in Burbank, California where 250 invited guests, including Little and Wilder, watched the film on horseback.
The movie was a huge hit at the box office grossing $119.6 million from a budget of just $2.6 million, making it one of the most successful comedies ever made as well as one of the funniest.
