'Braveheart' opened in US theaters on this day in 1995. Mel Gibson directed, co-produced and starred as 13th century Scottish warrior Sir William Wallace. The movie opened to positive reviews and went on to receive ten Academy Award nominations, winning five including Best Picture and Best Director. Mel Gibson’s film was also responsible for giving a major boost to the Scottish tourism industry.
