Sports comedy 'Caddyshack' opened in theaters across the United States on this day in 1980. Harold Ramis' directorial debut opened to mostly negative reviews but went on to make nearly $40 million at the box office in North America and $60 million worldwide.

Set in an exclusive golf club and starring Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, Michael O'Keefe and Bill Murray, the movie has since gained a large cult following and was described by ESPN as "perhaps the funniest sports movie ever made".
