'Falling Down' opened in theaters across North America on this day in 1993. Joel Schumacher's movie stars Michael Douglas as William Foster, AKA D-FENS, a divorced and unemployed defense engineer trying to reach the house of his estranged ex-wife in time for his daughters birthday. Abandoning his car, he begins trekking across Los Angeles on a sweltering hot summers day. Along the way he encounters various obstacles leading him to start taking extreme measures against what he perceives as an unjust society.

Robert Duvall co-stars as Martin Prendergast, an LAPD sergeant on the day of his retirement, dealing with his own frustrations as he tracks down Foster. The film opened to generally positive reviews with particular praise for the riveting performance by Douglas.
