Gladiator wins Best Film Golden Globe

Ridley Scott's epic historical drama 'Gladiator' won the Best Picture (Drama) Award at the 58th Golden Globe Awards on this day in 2001.

Scott's movie revitalised the sword-and-sandal genre that had fallen out of fashion in Hollywood many years earlier and turned lead actor Russell Crowe into an international superstar. 'Gladiator' received a total of five nominations with Hans Zimmer also winning for Best Score.
