'Groundhog Day' opened in theaters across North America on this day in 1993. Harold Ramis's comedy stars Bill Murray as Phil Connors, a cynical TV weatherman, who is reluctantly covering the annual Groundhog Day event in a small Pennsylvanian town for the fourth year running when he becomes trapped in a time loop, forcing him to relive the same day over and over.

The movie was a critical and commercial success, earning more than $105 million at the box-office and is now considered one of the best films of the 90s and one of the greatest comedies ever made.
