'Home Alone' opened in theaters across North America on this day in 1990. Directed by Chris Columbus from a script by John Hughes, the popular family favourite stars Macaulay Culkin as eight-year old Kevin McCallister, who has to defend his Chicago home from a pair of incompetent burglars after his family accidentally leave him behind on their Christmas vacation to Paris.

‘Home Alone’ was met with positive reviews and went on to gross $476.7 million worldwide. It is now considered to be one the best Christmas films.
