'In the Name of the Father' opened in theaters in the US on this day in 1994. Jim Sheridan's crime drama tells the true story of the Guildford Four and the fight to prove their innocence after being falsely convicted of the 1974 Guildford pub bombings.

Based on Gerry Conlon's 1990 autobiography 'Proved Innocent: The Story of Gerry Conlon of the Guildford Four', the film was a commercial and critical success and went on to receive seven Academy Award nominations.
