Steven Spielberg's movie, based on the novel of the same name by Michael Crichton, grossed more than $914 million worldwide in its initial theatrical run, making it the highest-grossing film ever at the time, surpassing Spielberg's 'E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial' (1982).

'Jurassic Park' opened to positive reviews and was acknowledged for its groundbreaking technical achievements, winning three Academy Awards. The movie began a franchise which to date has spawned five sequels.
