'Kick-Ass' was released in cinemas worldwide on this day in 2010. Matthew Vaughn's black comedy superhero film from a screenplay by Vaughn and Jane Goldman, stars Aaron Johnson as teenager Dave Lizewski who sets out to become a real-life superhero called Kick-Ass.

Along the way he teams up with Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and Hit-Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) as they attempt to bring down crime boss Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong) and his son Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse).

Despite causing some controversy for its profanity and violence performed by a minor, the movie was a hit with both critics and audiences and has gone on to gain a large cult following since its release on home media. A sequel 'Kick-Ass 2' was released in 2013 to mixed reviews and Vaughn has since announced his intentions to reboot the series.
