Jim Henson's musical fantasy 'Labyrinth' opened in US theaters on this day in 1986. Starring Jennifer Connelly as 16 year old Sarah who embarks on a quest to rescue her younger brother Toby in an otherworldly maze and David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King, the movie opened to mixed reviews and a poor showing at the box office.

Since its initial release Henson's film has gone on to gain a substantial cult audience largely due to its popularity on home media.

'Labyrinth' was the last feature film to be directed by Jim Henson before he passed away in 1990.
