Harvey Keitel was born on this day in 1939. After studying under Stella Adler and Lee Strasberg, Keitel's acting career began with appearances in off-Broadway shows and minor roles on US TV. His film debut came with an uncredited role in 'Reflections in a Golden Eye' (1967).

His first starring role was in Martin Scorsese's debut feature 'Who's That Knocking at My Door' (1967), which began a long-standing creative relationship between the actor and director on such films as 'Mean Streets' (1973), 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore' (1974), 'Taxi Driver' (1976), 'The Last Temptation of Christ' (1988) and 'The Irishman' (2019).

Keitel also starred in the directorial debuts of Ridley Scott: 'The Duellists' (1977), Paul Schrader: 'Blue Collar' (1978) and Quentin Tarantino: 'Reservoir Dogs' (1991).

Other notable film credits include 'Bad Timing' (1980), 'Wise Guys' (1986), 'The Two Jakes' (1990), 'Thelma & Louise' (1991), 'Bugsy' (1991), 'Bad Lieutenant' (1992), 'The Piano' (1993), 'Pulp Fiction' (1994), 'Smoke' (1995), 'From Dusk Till Dawn' (1996), 'Cop Land' (1997), 'National Treasure' (2004), 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' (2014) and 'Youth' (2015).

Emerging from the New Hollywood movement in the late 1960s, Harvey Keitel has gone on to become one of the most respected actors of his generation. Happy Birthday Harvey.
