The first Academy Awards took place 94 years ago today. The ceremony was held in the Blossom Room of the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood and was attended by just 270 guests.

Hosted by Douglas Fairbanks, it lasted a mere 15 minutes and is the only Academy Awards ceremony not to be broadcast on either radio or television. The silent World War I drama 'Wings' won the Best Picture Oscar.
