Peter Cushing was born on this day in 1913. The much loved British actor was best known for his roles in the Hammer Productions horror films of the 50s, 60s and 70s, as well as portraying Grand Moff Tarkin in the first Star Wars film.

His acting career spanned six decades and included appearances in over 100 films. In 1989 he was awarded an OBE for his contributions to acting in Britain and worldwide. Peter Cushing passed away in 1994 aged 81.
