Clint Eastwood turns 94 today. The legendary filmmaker and actor was born in San Francisco in 1930. In 1953 following his discharge from the army, Eastwood moved to Hollywood where he took a screen test with Universal that netted him a 40-week contract. Several bit parts followed before he finally got his big break when he was cast as Rowdy Yates in the popular western TV series 'Rawhide' (1959-65).

By the start of the 1970’s, a new era of cinema saw Eastwood emerge as one of its more successful leading actors. From ‘Rawhide’ to working in Europe with Leone, playing the man with no name in the genre-defining ‘Dollars Trilogy’ and back to Hollywood to appear in films as diverse as ‘Paint Your Wagon’ (1969), Kelly’s Heroes’ (1970) and ‘The Beguiled’ (1971). It was Don Siegel's 1971 cop thriller 'Dirty Harry' though that propelled Eastwood to international superstardom.

Throughout the 70s and 80s Eastwood remained one of Hollywood's major box office stars while at the same time honing his craft as a filmmaker following his directorial debut with 'Play Misty for Me' (1971). The revisionist western 'Unforgiven' (1992) was a box office and critical hit and won Academy Awards for best picture and best director for Eastwood.

Further success followed into the new century with the dramas 'Mystic River' (2003) and 'Million Dollar Baby' (2004), the latter winning Oscars once again for best picture and Eastwood for best director.

Clint Eastwood continues to remain active in front of as well as behind the camera with his most recent project, the western thriller 'Cry Macho' released in 2021 and a new movie ‘Juror #2’ scheduled for release later this year. Happy Birthday Clint.
