Steven Spielberg's 'Munich' was given a wide release in theaters across the US on this day in 2006, having had a limited release in late 2005 to put it in contention for the upcoming Academy Awards.

Spielberg's film is based on the search and subsequent retaliation, following the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics. The movie received a positive critical reaction and went on to pick up five Academy Award nominations.
