M*A*S*H premiered at the Baronet Theatre in New York City on this day in 1970. Robert Altman’s black comedy centres on a unit of medical personnel stationed at a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War.

The film was a critical and commercial success, becoming the third highest-grossing film of the year behind ‘Love Story’ and ‘Airport’ and helped launch the careers of Elliott Gould, Donald Sutherland, Sally Kellerman and Robert Duvall.
