'Paddington' opened in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on this day in 2014. Paul King's film based on Michael Bond's stories stars Ben Wishaw as the voice of Paddington Bear with Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi and Nicole Kidman in live-action roles. The story of the little bear who travels from "Darkest Peru" to London where he is adopted by the Brown family while avoiding the clutches of a sinister taxidermist, was released to critical acclaim and grossed $268 million worldwide on a budget of €38.5 million.

The film received two BAFTA nominations for Best British Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. A sequel 'Paddington 2' (2017) was equally popular with audiences and critics while a third film is set for release in November 2024.
