The world premiere of Alfred Hitchcock's classic thriller 'Psycho' was held at two theaters in New York City on this day in 1960. The movie was promoted in the US with a warning from Hitchcock himself that no one would be admitted to the theater after the picture had started.

Filmed on a lower budget than Hitchcock's previous film 'North by Northwest' (1959) and in black and white, 'Psycho' received mixed reviews but its success at the box-office led to a critical re-evaluation and it is now widely regarded as one of the best films from the Master of Suspense and arguably his most well known.
