Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho' opened in theaters across the United States on this day in 1960. The film was promoted in the US with a warning from Hitchcock himself that no one would be admitted to the theater after the film had started.

Filmed on a lower budget than the directors previous film 'North by Northwest' (1959) and in black and white, 'Psycho' received mixed reviews but its success at the box-office led to a critical re-evaluation and it is now widely regarded as one of Hitchcock's best films and arguably his most well known.
