Alfred Hitchcock's 'Rear Window' was released in theaters across the United States on this day in 1954. Starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly, the movie was filmed entirely at Paramount Studios on a giant set built to replicate New York's Greenwich Village.

'Rear Window' opened to positive reviews and went on to make more than $36 million from a budget of $1 million. Considered to be not just one of the best films directed by Hitchcock but also one of the greatest films ever made, it went on to be nominated for four Academy Awards.
