'Some Like It Hot' opened in theaters in the U.S. on this day in 1959. Billy Wilder’s classic comedy starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon was met with critical and commercial success and went on to receive six Academy Award nominations, winning for Best Costume Design. A 2000 poll by the American Film Institute voted ‘Some Like It Hot’ as the top comedy film and it is widely considered to be one of the greatest movies ever made.
