Following a limited release a couple of weeks earlier 'Stand by Me' was given a nationwide release in theaters across North America on this day in 1986. Directed by Rob Reiner and based on the novella 'The Body' by Stephen King, 'Stand by Me' is a classic coming-of-age drama involving four young boys from Oregon who in 1959 embark on a journey to find the body of a missing boy, unaware their lives will be changed forever.
One of the best Stephen King adaptations, Rob Reiner's film is as poignant and engaging now as it was 38 years ago.
