'The Aristocats' opened in theaters in the US on this day in 1970. The 20th Disney animated feature film was a hit with both audiences and critics and tells the story of a family of aristocratic cats and how they are helped by an alley cat after a butler has kidnapped them to get his hands on his mistress's fortune intended for the high society cats.

Featuring the voices of Phil Harris, Eva Gabor, Hermione Baddeley and Scatman Crothers among others and some terrific songs, 'The Aristocats' is an enduring family favourite.
