'The Blind Side' opened in theaters in the US on this day in 2009. John Lee Hancock's biographical drama tells the story of American football player Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) who overcomes an impoverished upbringing to play in the NFL with the help of his adoptive parents Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock) and Sean Tuohy (Tim McGraw).

The movie received mixed reviews but was successful at the box office grossing $309.2 million on a $29 million budget. Despite the lukewarm response from critics, Sandra Bullock was singled out for praise for her performance and went on to win the Academy and Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress.
