'The Breakfast Club' opened in theaters across the U.S. on this day in 1985. John Hughes coming-of-age comedy-drama stars Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy as five teenagers with little in common, other than being in the same class, who spend a Saturday together in high school detention.
The movie received critical acclaim and earned $51.5 million on a budget of just $1 million. The five lead actors, in a term coined by the media, became known as members of a group called the "Brat Pack". Hughes' film is now considered as not only one of his best but also one of the quintessential films of the 1980s.
