The premiere of 'The Bridge on the River Kwai' took place in London on this day in 1957. David Lean's epic World War II drama based on Pierre Boulle's novel stars Alec Guinness, William Holden, Jack Hawkins and Sessue Hayakawa.
The film went on to become the most successful released that year and won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture.
