The US premiere of 'The Dark Knight Rises' was held at the AMC Lincoln Square Theater in New York on this day in 2012 followed by a European premiere on July 18th at Leicester Square in London. The final instalment in 'The Dark Knight' trilogy was again directed by Christopher Nolan from a screenplay co-written by Nolan with his brother Jonathan. Christian Bale returned once again as the caped crusader, this time battling against Bane (Tom Hardy) to save Gotham City from nuclear destruction.

The movie was favourably received by critics and audiences alike and went on to gross over $1 billion at the box office worldwide.
